Magazine Cover, House & Garden

This is a Magazine Cover. It was graphic design by Herbert Matter and designed by Clare Potter and textile artist: Dorothy Wright Liebes. It is dated February 1950. Its medium is reproduction. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.

House & Garden art director Herbert Matter incorporated Liebes’s textiles into numerous cover designs in the late 1940s. Here, a model wearing a Potter hostess apron stands in front of a stove while tasting a dish. The gleaming copper cookware above echoes the glimmer of the Lurex in the apron, emphasizing the glamour of home entertainment.

It is credited Private collection.

This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.
