Poster, Moon, ca. 1988

This is a Poster. It was designed by Dan Friedman. It is dated ca. 1988 and we acquired it in 1997. Its medium is offset lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

A major contributor to the new pluralist, postmodern approach to American graphic design in the 1970s and 1980s, the work of Dan Friedman favors an eclectic creative process. Friedman juxtaposes the sizes and colors of two main elements of this untitled poster. A small semicircle, rendered in yellow, extends beyond the page and hovers above a massive black-and-white photograph of the moon against a blue background. The image is actually a composite of photographs taken at the first and third quarter phases using a 36-inchrefractor at an observatory located in California.

This object was donated by Ken Friedman. It is credited Gift of Ken Friedman.
