Cufflinks and Studs with Packaging from the Colorcore Personal Adornment Series Cufflinks, Studs, Packaging
This is a cufflinks, studs, packaging. It was designed by Robert Ebendorf and collaborator: Ivy Ross. It is dated 1983 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is colorcore formica (cufflinks, studs); printed cardboard (packaging). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Cufflinks and studs are jewelry forms traditionally associated with men. Ebendorf and Ross treated ColorCore Formica in a structured, geometric way, alternating or in-setting black and white ColorCore pieces to create simple, layered squares or rectangles with masculine appeal. Austerity is carried through in the commercial packaging--the clean forms are set off against a sketch-like graphic of a tuxedo shirt and black tie in a plain black box.
