Tsuba
This is a Tsuba. It was school of Kinai school. It is dated early 18th century and we acquired it in 1936. Its medium is iron. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
At the end of the Momoyama period (1573–1603), the Kinai school was active in the Echizen province. Founded by Takahashi Kinai, the school produced jet-black, glowing iron tsuba carved in relief with positive silhouette openwork. Common designs included dragons, hollyhocks, and other flowers and grass.
