Mitla Necklace, 2012

This is a Necklace. It was designed by Kiff Slemmons. It is dated 2012 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is handmade paper. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This is a unique piece made from paper from a workshop near Oaxaca, Mexico, that produces handmade paper. Particularly thick paper was made for this necklace, part of a series referring to ancient monuments in Oaxaca.

This object was donated by Susan Lewin. It is credited The Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
