Iddu Mirror, from De Natura Fossilium collection, 2014
This is a Iddu mirror. It was designed by Formafantasma, Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin. It is dated 2014. Its medium is obsidian mirror, lava rock, brass.
In the Iddu mirror, an obsidian mirror is suspended from a ceiling-mounted loop of polished brass, counter-balanced by a chunk of lava rock. The piece investigates the contrast of smooth and rough surfaces and traditional and modern uses of materials. Formafantasma, founded by Trimarchi and Farresin in 2009, explore the origins, production, and contemporary narratives of materials throughout their work.
It is credited Courtesy of Gallery Libby Sellers, London.
