CD Packaging, Milky Disco Three (To The Stars), 2010
This is a CD packaging. It was designed by Non-Format and made for (as the client) Lo Recordings. It is dated 2010 and we acquired it in 2012. Its medium is offset lithograph on cardstock with two plastic cds. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
For Lo Recordings' Milky Disco 3 release, To The Stars, Non-Format broke from its traditional use of black and white to create vibrant typography from colored triangles and rectangles; the shapes spell out “MILKY” on one on side of the package and “DISCO” on the other. The solid geometric forms read as both individual components and as composite letterforms. Though each shape reads as a flat form, they unite to create the illusion of spatial depth. Simple gray circles set against a white background are used to distinguish between the album’s two discs.
