Model, Please Feed The Lions

This is a Model. It is dated 2018. Its medium is 3d-printed resin and led, recreated for exhibition; installed 2018, london design biennale, trafalgar square, london, uk. It is a part of the department.

“Four bronze lions have been sitting silently in London’s Trafalgar Square for over 150 years, mute witnesses to protests, demonstrations, and celebrations. I wondered: if one of these lions could open its mouth and speak, what would it say? Visitors were asked to ‘feed’ a chosen word into the mouth of a new, fifth, fluorescent red-orange lion, cast from one of the originals. Their poems were projected onto Nelson’s Column. We used the same algorithm as in previous experiments, trained on millions of lines of 19th-century poetry.”
