Drawing, Sketch for American Airlines 747 Coach Class Interior

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Henry Dreyfuss and Dorothy Wright Liebes. It is dated ca. 1970. Its medium is reproduction. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.

Liebes’s partnership with DuPont gave her architecture and industrial design clients access to cutting-edge materials. When Dreyfuss enlisted her to design upholsteries for the American Airlines flagship 747 aircraft, she used 100% Nomex—a new fire-proof fiber from DuPont. The fiber was also lightweight, an important consideration in aviation design.

It is credited Henry Dreyfuss Archive, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.
