Sketch With Swatch, Design for a Creme Woolen Suit

This is a Sketch with Swatch. It was designed by Bonnie Cashin and Dorothy Wright Liebes.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Fashion Institute of Technology Library, Special Collections as part of A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.

It is dated 1965. Its medium is graphite, marker, and color pencil on paper; wool and lurex swatch, kid leather. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.


These Cashin sketches, annotated by the designer, reveal just how central fabrics were to her design process. The garments were conceived around specific fabrics designed by her friend Liebes.
