Whether in his children’s books or in his graphics for the socialist movement, these pastoral, pseudo-historic scenes presented a vision of a utopian society. In A Floral Fantasy, an angel wearing a Phrygian cap—a symbol of revolution—leads the author through a garden in which humanized flowers live in an idealized, medieval society.
