Patchwork-style ink and watercolor design of puffin heads and bodies in varying sizes and orientations, each contained within an irregular shape. The plump black and white birds have round orange eyes, triangular orange and yellow beaks, orange feet, and some pale grey shading. The watercolors are freely painted, sometimes overlapping the black outlines. The small puffins are posed in various ways, with wings waving, spread back, or close at their sides. The puffin heads are drawn much larger than the small birds, with their prominent striped beaks emphasized. The borders around each puffin depiction are drawn to fit its shape or pose. The red-orange and yellow colors of the birds repeat as solid color background patches, mixed with black and grey patterned patches. The patches are grey with fine black stripes; white with black dots; or white with broad grey curving lines. The colors and patterns are evenly distributed over the page, creating a sense of movement in the design.
