Brisé Fan With Kaleidoscope
This is a Brisé Fan with Kaleidoscope. Its medium is drilled and painted horn, silk ribbon, brass and glass (kaleidoscope at rivet); cardboard (case). It is a part of the department.
The carved and elaborately pierced horn sticks of this fan are further embellished with colorful floral decoration. As an added visual amusement, the base houses a tiny cylindrical brass kaleidoscope at the point of juncture. When the fan is closed the sticks align to become a secure handle.
This object was bequest of Ann Hardy.
