Brisé Fan with Kaleidoscope Fan With Kaleidoscope

This is a fan with kaleidoscope. It is dated 1810–1830. Its medium is painted horn, silk, brass, glass, cardboard (case). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.


The carved and elaborately pierced horn sticks of this fan are further embellished with colorful floral decoration. As an added visual amusement, the base houses a tiny cylindrical brass kaleidoscope at the point of juncture. When the fan is closed the sticks align to become a secure handle.

This object was bequest of Ann Hardy. It is credited Bequest of Ann Hardy.
