Fork (Germany)
This is a fork. It was designed by Fritz August Breuhaus de Groot. It is dated 1931 and we acquired it in 2001. Its medium is silver-plated metal. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
This fork is part of a set designed in 1931 by the architect Fritz August Breuhaus de Groot, a native of Solingen, Germany. Solingen, near Cologne, was a major center of production of German cutlery. The set was commissioned by J. A. Henckels to celebrate the firm’s bicentennial. The robust, lobed handles give each piece in the set a strong sculptural character and a clean, modern line.
The acquisition of this fork, together with a knife from the set, would strengthen the museum's collection of German cutlery from the first half of the 20th century.
