Vanity Stand (USA)
This is a Vanity stand. It was designed by Lurelle Van Arsdale Guild and manufactured by C.F. Church Co.. We acquired it in 1997. Its medium is carved and joined wood, lacquered wood, cast metal. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
In the 1930s there was an increased focus on advertising home goods and furniture sets to female consumers. This Art Deco vanity table and bench, designed by Lurelle Guild for C. F. Church Manufacturing Company, were advertised in a spread stating: “At last you can bring beauty into your bathroom piece by piece – knowing that each and all will match perfectly in color, finish and design.”
This object was donated by Karen Davidov and Henry Myerberg.
