Tulip Pedestal Table
This is a Pedestal table. It was manufactured by Knoll International. It is dated 1957 and we acquired it in 1997. Its medium is painted aluminum, marble. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Eero Saarinen was part of a group of midcentury modern designers who sought organic, sculptural solutions over the strict rectilinear forms promoted by their modernist predecessors. Saarinen’s series of “Pedestal” or “Tulip” tables and chairs, produced by Knoll, aimed to eliminate the “slum of legs” he believed invaded interiors. The tables were available in different sizes, in oval or round, and with laminate, veneer, and marble options for the tabletops.
It is credited Gift of Mrs. Eric Larrabee.
Its dimensions are
H x diam.: 52 x 41 cm (20 1/2 x 16 1/8 in.)
