Poster, El reo necesario (The Necessary Offender)
This is a Poster. It is dated 1973 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is screenprint on wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Designer and illustrator Eduardo Muñoz Bachs was one of the first members of The Cuban Institute of Cinema Art and Industry (ICAIC), and the most important member of la Escuela Cubana del Cartel Cinematográfico in Cuba. At the age of 16, Bachs began his graphic work without any formal training, and later produced an extensive portfolio of silkscreened film posters. Although his work was not formally catalogued, he quickly rose to fame when his first poster design was publically displayed. Bachs’ approach to graphic work is simple in the way he utilizes a palette of five to six colors, and displays a single subject in the center of the composition. His drawing style mostly resembles children’s book illustrations with elements of humor, satire, and playful ingenuity. This poster was designed for the 1971 Bulgarian film Необходимият грешник, or The Indispensible Sinner, and later re-titled El reo necesario for the Spanish release.
