Lounge Chair (Denmark), ca. 1950

This is a Lounge chair. It is dated ca. 1950 and we acquired it in 1990. Its medium is teak and wicker. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel were the leading post-war Danish designers of wicker furniture. Their experimental designs won numerous awards including silver medals at the Milan Triennale in 1951 and 1957 and a gold medal in 1960. The organic form of this chair served as a precursor to one of their best-selling designs, a hanging wicker chair. The open oval form allows for the user to sit in a variety of ways.

It is credited Museum purchase from Decorative Arts Association Acquisition Fund.
