Bracelet (France)
This is a Bracelet. It is dated ca. 1860 and we acquired it in 1988. Its medium is gold, onyx, pearls. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
The ornamental shells, flowers, and ribbons of this suite reflect an interest in design of the Rococo period of the eighteenth century. The shiny dark marterial used to set of the pearls and gold is dark colored glass, known as French jet, a substitute for true jet, which was mined primarily in England. (Jewelry 1989-90).
