Yusaku Kamekura blends the classicism of Japanese design with the modern influence of the West to produce a remarkable hybridization in his work. He uses the tenets of simplicity inherent in each discipline to produce work that is clean yet complex. Working in a monochromatic palette for this poster for the 1973 ICSID conference in Kyoto, Kamekura aligns the concentric rings of a sphere to create depth and three-dimensionality in a two-dimensional plane. The resulting image appears to be activated on the page, with the cube floating in the middle.
