This is a Brooch. It was made by Tiffany and Co.. It is dated ca. 1889 and we acquired it in 1979. Its medium is gold, enamel, diamonds. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
A collection of twenty-five orchid jewels was exhibited by Tiffany and Co to great acclaim at the 1889 Universal Exposition in PAris. They were based on careful studies of rare orchid species by Tiffany designers, and were fashioned from enameled gold and precious stones. (Jewerly 1989-90).
