Sampler (USA), 1783

This is a Sampler. It was embroidered by Mary Babb. It is dated 1783 and we acquired it in 1974. Its medium is silk, linen, and cotton embroidery on linen foundation and its technique is counted and uncounted stitches; withdrawn element work; cutwork filled with hollie point; herringbone, chain, buttonhole and satin stitches on plain weave foundation, quilled ribbon. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Rosalie Coe. It is credited Bequest of Rosalie Coe, from the collection inherited from her mother, Eva Johnston Coe.
