Flounce Fragment (Belgium)
This is a Flounce fragment. It is dated 1755–70 and we acquired it in 1950. Its medium is linen and its technique is brussels style bobbin lace. It is a part of the Textiles department.
The finest net in this lace is the standard Brussels type. The net with picots supporting the central flowers was made with 4 bobbins to resemble needle-made nets. The broad areas of pattern are on a scale appropiate to a flounce of this size.
