Strongbox
This is a Strongbox. It is dated 15th century and we acquired it in 1932. Its medium is iron. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Next to nothing is known about this modes strongbox. Yet juxtaposed against Philippe Starck's polished aluminum ashtray, it demonstrates how the aging process only deepens the appeal of an object designed for everyday use in an era when iron, oak, and stone were the equivalent of today's industrial materials.
