This is a Tea caddy. It was made by Simon Pantin I. It is dated 1716 and we acquired it in 1931. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Mrs. Abram S. Hewitt. It is credited Gift of Mrs. Abram S. Hewitt.

Its dimensions are

On underside of the caddy: [1] “P.A.” under a peacock, impressed (maker’s mark) [2] “A.D 1716”, incised (date) [3] lion's head erased, impressed (London assay mark for Britannia silver standard) [4] “01”, incised On one side, within foliate scroll at bottom: [1] Britannia, impressed (Britannia silver standard mark, compulsory between 1687 and 1720, mark partially effaced) On one side, within foliate scroll at bottom: [1] “A” in shield reserve, impressed (London date letter for 1716; mark partially effaced) Interior of caddy cover: [1] “P.A.” under a peacock, impressed (maker’s mark) [2] lion's head erased, impressed (London assay mark for Britannia silver standard; stamped over maker's mark)
