Sketchbook Folio, Pope Gregorio VII and Four Angels, Study after Raphael "Persons of the Papacy"; Antique Bench

This is a Sketchbook folio. It was designed by Felice Giani. It is dated 1810–20 and we acquired it in 1901. Its medium is pen and brown ink, brush and brown wash over traces of black chalk on white laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of various donors.

Its dimensions are

21.8 x 15.2 cm (8 9/16 x 6 in.)

It is inscribed

in pen and brown ink at center left: Roma Rafaello; at lower left: Roma/ sedile greco; at lower left corner: 28. On verso: 1 nero geme d'oro/ 2 celeste/ 3 giallo ricamoto rosso/ 4 celeste/ 5 color di rosa/ rabeschi cinabro/ 6 celeste/ 7 nero testa a canestro colorito/ 8 galo canne (?)/ 9 bianco ornati colori/ 9; other numbers annotated throughout design.
