![A vertical, rectangular advertising card composed of black text in multiple fonts and small scale imagery. In the top center is a black, quatrefoil medallion, with the words [the Distinctive SOCIALLY CORRECT way] printed in white on it, with the words [the Distinctive] and [way] in cursive, italic font, and the words [SOCIALLY CORRECT] in capital, sans serif letters. Above this, the word [TELEGRAMS...] is printed in black, capital sans serif letters on a white, diagonal banner, which appears to be a ripped strip of telegram paper laid on top of the black medallion. At the bottom left of the quatrefoil is a small, black top hat, cane and gloves. The quatrefoil itself is set against a black shaded ground. Beneath the quatrefoil, the words [For Modern Social Correspondence] are printed in centered, black, serif letters. Underneath this is a block of five sentences, each beginning with an infinitive idea expressed in a bold, black, italic, cursive font, and ending with text in serif font, which convey the idea that telegrams are desirable as an expression of social etiquette for a series of formal contexts. They read: [To Invite guests for parties, week-ends, formal and informal functions of all kinds. / To Thank your host for hospitality or entertainment. / To Announce engagements, weddings, births, special events and gatherings. / To Express Regret at inability to accept invitations, and to send condolences and expressions of sympathy. / To Greet and Congratulate friends on all such occa-sions as Weddings, Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries, Christ-mas, Mother’s Day, Easter.] Below this [Telegrams may be telephoned to Western Union from any personal or coin box telephone] is printed in centered, italic, black font; with the words [Special blanks and envelopes for Greeting and Congratulation messages] printed below in centered, black serif font. At the bottom of the poster are the words [WESTERN UNION] printed in black, capital, sans serif letters between two horizontal black lines.
