Necklace consisting of a single string of red glass beads, with approximately 35-40 one-cent copper or bronze coins suspended from the string. Each coin is suspended to the bead string with metal chains that pass through holes in the center of the coins and are threaded on the same string as the beads. All chains have equal length, so that coins depart from the beaded string by approximantely twice the diameter of a coin. The coins from British East Africa (British African Shilling) show signs of use and have hardly visible inscriptions (obverse: Georgius V Rex et Ind. Imp., reverse: East Africa, One Cent, 19..). In one half of the necklace, beads are larger and there is one coin every two beads. On the other half of the necklace, beads are thinner and coins are suspended every three beads. Overall, this results in regular spacing of the coins alongside the necklace. Despite using a colonial currency, the necklace has a traditional appearance.
