Munich-based jewelry artist Jiro Kamata was born in Hirosaki, Japan in 1978. Between 1996 and 1998 he attended the Yamanashi Institute of Gemology and Jewelry Art and between 1998 and 1999 he moved to Germany to attend the Hochschule für Gestalltung Pforzheim. He studied under Professor Otto Kunzli at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich between 2000 and 2006. Kamata has since developed a unique practice in which he applies highly developed goldsmiths techniques to non-traditional materials, and utilizes eyeglasses and camera lenses in his pieces.
