József Bottlik
József Bottlik was a Hungarian designer born in 1897. Apart from several months spent at Budapest’s school of applied arts, Bottlik was self taught and he began designing commercial posters in 1919. In 1925, Bottlik was hired as the head designer for Orion, a Hungarian electronics company. He held this position until 1965, and over the years he produced many posters for Orion. He also took freelance commissions. His freelance designs included an iconic poster for the movie Metropolis (1927). Bottlik left Budapest for several years, working first in Berlin, Germany between 1933-35 and then in London, England as an illustrator for the News Review. He returned to Budapest in the 1940s.
