Erna Kopřiva attended the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Applied Arts) from 1914–19 under Anton Hanak, Josef Hoffmann, and Oskar Strnad. She designed textiles and ceramics for the Wiener Werkstätte. She participated in numerous exhibitions including the Kunstschau 1920, the Paris International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts of 1925, Deutsche Frauenkunst 1925, Wie sieht die Frau? (How does the woman see?) exhibition of 1930, and Wiener Raumkünstler (Viennese Interior Decorators) of 1929–30. She was a professor at the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule (School of the Applied Arts) from 1928–60.
