Riverside Ceramics Company was founded in 1946 in Riverside, California as a small start-up venture by partners Arthur Krieger, new to the region, and Howard Boylan, a local businessman. Krieger wagered that if Boylan could gather enough investors to fund the new ceramics company, he could locate the ceramists. The arrangement was successful and Boylan became secretary of the board of directors and treasurer. The factory opened in 1947, with about fifteen employees, just outside of Riverside on Box Springs Road.
