Anthony Baus (b. 1981) is an American artist. He trained first at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee where he earned a BFA. He then worked as an apprentice at BLDG.51 in Chicago, Illinois, a collection dedicated to architectural salvage and documentation. He then enrolled at the Grand Central Atelier (GCA) in New York. GCA’s training is rooted in a Renaissance artistic tradition. Baus received a formative education at the GCA, honing his skills as a draftsman of contemporary realism and mastering traditional techniques. In 2015, Baus received the Alma Schapiro Prize to spend several months as a fellow at the American Academy in Rome studying Old Master paintings and drawings. Upon his return to New York, he became an instructor at the GCA while maintaining his own artistic practice. Since 2020, he has lived and worked in both Wisconsin and Brooklyn, New York.
