Born in Odense in 1866, Oscar Gundlach-Pedersen trained as a mason and studied sculpture and architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1909 to 1917. He went on to design several major buildings including an exhibition hall in Copenhagen in 1926 and Denmark’s first multi-story parking garage in Copenhagen in 1933. He worked at Georg Jensen Solvsmedie as manager from about 1927 to 1931, continuing on as a designer and then an advisor until 1954. His work for Jensen encompasses jewelry, holloware, candelabra, and flatware, including the pattern “Mitra”, the company’s first stainless steel flatware.
