Rayouf Alhumedhi is a Saudi student currently based in the United States and is the lead proposer of the Person With Headscarf Emoji. Alhumedhi began wearing a hijab at the age of 13. She was inspired to propose the Person With Headscarf Emoji because an emoji did not exist that represented her and the millions of women globally who wear headscarves. She learned about the emoji proposal process and submitted the Hijab Emoji proposal when she was 15, in collaboration with Jennifer 8. Lee, Alexis Ohanian, and designer Aphelandra Messer.
