Cooper Hewitt says...

Half Moon is a luxury hotel located on Montego Bay in Jamaica. The resort began when a group of seventeen investors—America, British, and Bermudan—procured a crescent-shaped plot of thirty-five acres, formerly used as a loading dock for a sugar cargo. Among Half Moon’s original investors were designer Donald Deskey, Harvey Firestone, Jr. of Firestone Tyre and Rubber Company, Richard Reynolds of Reynolds Metal Company, among other captains of industry. The original resort opened in 1954 and consisted of cottages and beachfront rooms.

Today, ten of the original seventeen cottages remain, while the number of guest rooms located in the “Great House” has proliferated. Alongside these accommodations, the facility includes a spa, restaurants and bars, a golf course, and various other amenities. Half Moon’s best-known guests include Queen Elizabeth II, Princes Phillip and Charles, and John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy.
