The Harker Pottery Co. was established by Benjamin Harker Sr. in 1840 with the manufacture of yellow and Rockingham wares in East Liverpool Ohio. The business was incorporated in 1890. In the mid-nineteenth century the pottery built a reputation for pitchers with hound and other fanciful handles. Harper also decorated the wares of other potteries active in the East Liverpool region. In 1931, Harker Pottery moved to Chester, West Virginia and occupied an updated building that had formerly housed the E.M. Knowles China Company. Some of the company’s best known dinnerware patterns include Royal Gadroon and Cameo Ware. The pottery ceased operations in 1972.
