Irma Boom is a Dutch graphic designer who is especially known for her book making. She studied graphic design at the AKI School of Fine Art in Enscheden. Boom worked at the Dutch Government Publishing and Printing Office in The Hague for five years before she founded her own firm, Irma Boom Office, in Amsterdam in 1991. Boom works both nationally and internationally in the cultural and commercial sectors, and among her clients are the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Paul Fentener van Vlissingen, Inside Outside, Museum Boijmans, Zumtobel, Ferrari, Vitra International, NAi Publishers, and Camper. Boom has designed over 250 books, 50 of which are in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art. Since 1992 she has been teaching at Yale University, and has lectured and given workshops worldwide. She is the recipient of many awards for her book designs and is well known for being the youngest person ever to have received an award for outstanding achievement with a Gutenberg prize for her work as a painter, composer, and artist in 2001. She is currently designing Cooper-Hewitt's collection handbook to be released upon the Museum’s reopening.
