Sawyers was active as an illustrator for American periodicals in the twentieth century. She is best known for her propaganda posters for the World War II effort, as well as for her illustrations for everyday domestic publications like Reader's Digest. In 1998 she was elected posthumously to Society of Illustrators New York Hall of Fame Laureates.
