Born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in 1934, Anthony Ballatore was an artist, designer, and innovator whose knowledge of youthful rebellion pushed him to break boundaries in window display and fabric design. Over the course of his career, Ballatore worked with many famed international designers and brands. At the age of 25, he was both the display and creative director of Henri Bendel. He went on to become the creative director of Zafero Studios and, later, the creative director of Jack Lenor Larsen. Ballatore’s designs were exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, as well as at the Louvre in France. He participated in many national and international exhibitions, and his work resides in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian, and Fashion Institute of Technology. His work has been published and written about in The New York Times, Women’s Wear Daily, The Tribune, The New York Post, and Architecture.
