Margaret West earned degrees from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (R.M.I.T.) and Melbourne College. In 1979, she moved to Sydney, where she lectured and headed the studio of jewelry and object design at the Sydney College of the Arts, at the University of Sydney. She has exhibited works all over the country. West has published several articles and lectured around Australia.
