Cooper Hewitt says...

Joe Doucet was born in Houston, TX but grew up in Terrell, TX outside of Dallas. He graduated in 1999 with a degree in Communication Design from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Though he began working in graphic design, he quickly discovered that he was more interested in designing objects rather than just the product packaging. Doucet went on to establish Joe Doucet Studio, a design firm based in New York and London. His work extends across media—from furniture to electronics to toys—and for a variety of well-known clientele, including BMW, Procter & Gamble, Whirlpool, and Braun, among others. His work has been shown internationally at sites such as the London Design Museum and the Biennale International Design in Saint-Etienne. Besides winning Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum's 2017 National Design Award for Product Design, he received the World Technology Award for Design and multiple Good Design Awards, and Surface magazine named him their only AvantGuardian for Design. Most recently, he co-founded OTHR, a design company based in New York which creates innovative 3D-printed products by leading contemporary designers.
