Stamen Design is a data visualization and cartography design studio based in San Francisco, California. Founded by Eric Rodenbeck in 2001, Stamen creates beautiful, technically sophisticated and playful projects for a diverse range of clients including Nike, the World Health Organization, the Getty, and the Dalai Lama. The studio maintains a public-centric approach in its work, which is evident in self-initiated projects including Stamen Maps, Field Papers, and Mapstack. These open-source resources increase access to and participation in digital design worldwide. The studio’s work has been exhibited at biennials and museums worldwide. Stamen Design was recognized in Fast Company’s 2012 Innovation by Design Awards and was the 2017 National Design Award winner for Interaction Design.
