Patricial Urquiola (Spanish, b. 1961) lives and works in Milan, Italy. She attended Madrid Polytechnic’s School of Architecture and graduated from Milan Politecnico in 1989. In 1990 she became head of new product development for Milan-based furniture company DePadova, and in 1996 became head of Lissoni Associati’s design group. She opened her own studio in 2001. Focusing on product design, architecture and installation design, she has worked with many major design firms, including Alessi, B&B Italia, Baccarat, BMW, Cappellini, Cassina, Salvatore Ferragamo, Flos, Kartell, Kvadrat, Luis Vuitton, Moroso, Rosenthal, and Glas Italia.

Urquiola has received numerous awards, including Designer of the Year from Elle Décor and Wallpaper, as well as the Red Dot Award and the Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award. In 2011 she was awarded the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes by King Juan Carlos I of Spain. Her Fjord Relax armchair is included in The Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection.
