Whorl Pendant Neckpiece

This is a Neckpiece. It was designed by Jennifer Trask. It is dated 2010. Its medium is carved cow and ox bone, snake vertebrae, resin, plastic (found objects), diamonds, gold, silver . It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Bones and visceral animal parts are symbols of life and death that are part of Trask’s powerful vocabulary. In her Whorl Pendant she creates an amalgam of carved cow and ox bone, snake vertebrae and found plastic objects as well as diamond encrusted wheels that suggest elements of permanence amidst the transience of life.

It is credited Promised gift to the Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
