Ojo de Agua Necklace
This is a necklace. It was designed by Kiff Slemmons. It is dated 2005 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is handmade paper. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Ojo de Agua, meaning "eye of water" or "watering hole," is an early example of Slemmons's ongoing work with the Taller Arte Papel paper workshop in Oaxaca, Mexico. Her explorations in jewelry of handmade paper began about fifteen years ago, with an invitation from Francisco Toledo of the workshop to teach designs that the paper artisans could reproduce. That project evolved into "many layers of production and collaboration."
