Dress, from Fall / Winter 2013 collection
This is a Dress. It was designed by Sandra Backlund.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Sandra Backlund as part of Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.
Backlund fabricates volumetric forms that exaggerate and distort the body’s silhouette. “I mean to shape the idea of the body using clothes,” she says. This crocheted dress resembles a soft suit of armor. The natural, undyed cotton emphasizes the garment’s shape. Backlund’s creations flow organically from the techniques and materials of knitting and crochet.
It is credited Courtesy of Sandra Backlund.
