This is a book illustration. It was designed by André Lurçat and published by Éditions Albert Lévy. It is dated ca. 1928–29. Its medium is pochoir on paper. It is a part of the Smithsonian Libraries department.
Born in Bruyères, France in 1894, André Lurçat studied at the École des Beaux-Arts. He went on to work with Robert Mallet-Stevens to address the contemporary French housing crisis in the interwar period. Like Mallet-Stevens, Lurçat explored ways to employ modern functional designs in his interiors. This axonometric view of a studio and salon demonstrates a layout of an interior that promotes efficient use of space for both living and working. The studio has a glass wall to provide ample natural light, built in cabinetry and modernist tubular furniture.
