“We staged The Weeknd’s world stadium tour for his new album, The Dawn, within a science-fictional sandcastle city. Abel is a cinephile with a deep knowledge of the movies. The stage sculpture, along with Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama’s giant revolving chrome statue, drew from the visuals of Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent film Metropolis—a dystopian vision of the year 2026.”
